Philanthropy
Philanthropy is at the “heart” of the Alpha Phi experience. We support the Alpha Phi Foundation, which raises funds for programs to improve women’s cardiac health, advance leadership development, encourage academic excellence and support sisters in need.
Cardiac disease is the number one killer of women in America, and for more than 50 years Alpha Phi has focused on women's cardiac health as its philanthropic priority. Through its annual Heart to Heart Grant, the Alpha Phi Foundation helps to fund research and educational programs that support women's cardiac health. As a result of these efforts, women everywhere are learning more about the causes, prevention and treatment of heart disease. The Foundation also benefits members of Alpha Phi with the Forget-Me-Not alumnae assistance program and the Emergency Aid collegiate assistance program.
Every spring semester, Pepperdine’s Iota Alpha chapter hosts its “EAT YOUR HEART OUT” philanthropy event to benefit the Alpha Phi Foundation. Our chapter invites the Pepperdine and Malibu community to an all-you-can-eat buffet and dinner auction. Tickets, pins, cupcakes and other goodies are sold before the event, and then gift certificates from local restaurants are auctioned off at the event. All proceeds are donated to the Alpha Phi Foundation. The various Greek organizations provide dinner entertainment, competing in a themed skit competition and vying for the title of King or Queen of Hearts. We hope to continue to expand Iota Alpha’s philanthropy, while also taking an active role in the other philanthropic events on campus.
Our chapter also participates in Step Forward Day, Pepperdine’s annual day of collective volunteer service. In total, about 1,500 students go out in teams to assist over fifty nonprofit organizations, schools, churches, and parks throughout Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
